Tornado Rips Through Park - Oz-Stravaganza! Forced To Close For Safety

This morning a tornado ripped through the main vendor area for Oz-Stravaganza!, taking down many tents and forcing the festival to come to an early close.  At the time of this post, there have been no identified injuries.

Munchkin autograph opportunities have been moved to the American Legion on Legion Drive, in Chittenango.  The munchkins will be available to sign autographs there from 1PM until 5PM.  However, another key event for the weekend, Emerald City Idol, is in the process of being rescheduled for a later date.  All other events have been cancelled.  All vendors have closed and are leaving the park.

"We were looking up at the clouds, and one cloud looked very strange.  Then we

realized what we were seeing was debris flying in the funnel of a tornado.  We held down the back of our tent, or it would have flown away like the others."
- Anonymous Vendor

"We are sad to see it come to an early end; but, we did

really well the first two days. We'll be back next year, for sure." - Anonymous Vendor

When a date is scheduled for Emerald City Idol, it will be posted here on the Oz-Stravaganza! Website.  Locks of Love will also take place on that same day.

Oz-Stravaganza! 2010 Has Kicked Off!

As always, the fireworks display was great! With synchronizations to soundtrack clips from The Wizard of Oz.

In Memory of Meinhardt Raabe

The Community of Chittenango is saddened by the death of Munchkin Coroner Meinhardt Raabe.  His first visit to Chittenango with his wonderful wife Marie was over twenty years ago. He happened upon an article in National Geographic Traveler about the Oz festival in Chittenango, and he made contact with festival organizers to tell of his role in the 1939 classic MGM film, "The Wizard of Oz". An invitation was extended for he and Marie to attend.
